I’m Back (Sort of) – What I’ve Been as much as

I dedicated to being back by the end of July as well as I’m squeaking in just on the last day! First, I want to say thanks to you all for the birthday wishes! I had a fantastic birthday! My SO as well as I baked a cake… a Betty Crocker boxed cake in the Cherry Chip flavour. It’s a nostalgic flavour for me as I keep in mind having it at birthday celebrations when I was little! I don’t have fantastic pictures of the masterpiece however here’s what a slice looked like:

It turned out truly well for our very first ever baking attempt! (It’s not elegant like the ones I see on the internet however it’s the taste that counts, right?) aside from my birthday, during my time away from blogging, I’ve been doing some fun stuff…

While last year we visited Japan as well as did a Mediterranean cruise, this year we decided to focus on Canadian destinations, particularly locations within our province.  Here are a few locations we’ve visited recently:

Stratford

This city is understood for its Shakespeare celebrations as well as online theatre – it’s about 2 hours west of Toronto. We went so we might go to a little down for Canada Day instead of hanging out in the city. What was so neat was that everybody was all decked out in red as well as white for Canada’s 150th birthday. We returned house later that evening as well as barely anyone had on red as well as white in downtown Toronto.  This was my attire:

Kingston

Kingston City Hall
For my birthday, my SO as well as I spent a long weekend up at Kingston, one of Canada’s oldest cities (it was Canada’s very first funding city).  It’s about a 3 hour drive east of Toronto, about midway between Toronto as well as Montreal.  We stayed at a Victorian style B&B:

And visited the top touristy attractions in town, the very first being the Kingston Penitentiary:

This was a running maximum security prison up up until 2013, housing a few of Canada’s most notorious criminals.  It was the very first prison in Canada as well as one of the longest running prisons in the world before it closed.

She was the warden for a few years toward the end.
The unique design inside the work Building.
The Dome, where the guards have a 360 view of each cell.
The next morning we visited Fort Henry, which was developed by the British during the war of 1812 to fend off prospective assault from America (the us border is extremely close as well as visible from the Fort).

The fort was never attacked as well as now serves as a heritage site as well as museum.

We spotted 2 goats however it was never explained what they were doing there.  I believe they’re mascots?

Lastly, we went on a river cruise to go to the Thousand Islands on the Saint Lawrence River, which is famous for its many bit islands with multi-million dollar homes developed on them!

The weekend was wonderful – one more notable thing about Kingston is their culinary scene – we had a few of the very best meals ever (shout-out to Grecos, Amadeus cafe as well as Dianne’s Fish Shack).  There are many surrounding areas around Kingston that we’d like to go to including Wolfe Island as well as prince Edward County.

Queen + Adam Lambert concert

My sibling got me tickets to the Queen show for my birthday! At very first I didn’t understand what to expect since of Adam Lambert as the lead however the show [turned out to be] awesome!

It was likewise Brian May’s birthday that night so we sang happy birthday to him!

I published rather a few videos of the show on IG stories the day after the concert. say thanks to you to my sibling for this incredible birthday present!

Niagara-on-the-Lake as well as Niagara Falls

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a quaint bit town as well as extremely prominent as a retirement community.
And just this past weekend, I spent a day touring Niagara region with my sister. She had won tickets for a guided day trip. I’ve been to Niagara Falls many times (it’s only about an hour as well as a half south of Toronto – I’ve had a co-worker that commuted everyday from Niagara Falls to Toronto) however it never gets boring.  I understand for many people, Niagara Falls is the quintessential “Canadian” thing to do.  First, we stopped in for some ice wine tasting:

Ice wine is extremely wonderful as well as thought about a dessert wine.
Niagara Falls is really made up of 3 separate waterfalls, 2 of them are on the American side, shown right here (American Falls on the left as well as little bit sliver of a waterfall on the right is the Bridal Veil Falls).
And further to the right side is the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side – it is the prettiest of the 3 in my biased opinion!
We went into the heart of the falls on the Hornblower boat – it takes passengers up close into the Horseshoe Falls where the mist from the waterfall drenches everybody (that’s why we are provided plastic ponchos).
Ground view of the Horseshoe Falls with a rainbow developed in the mist.
I went on my very first ever helicopter ride!
It was frightening on the helicopter at very first – it felt so jarring to ascend so quickly into the sky. however when we were up there, the trip was smooth as well as comfortable.

View of Niagara Falls from the sky!  See exactly how incredible the Horseshoe Falls is?

Double rainbow!!
It was such an amazing day with my sister!  My SO as well as I plan to go back to Niagara-On-the-Lake next weekend to go to Fort George there as well as spend more time in the town.

Lastly, the biggest news is that I got a new job! It’s in a different division within the exact same organization however I’m altering offices as well as with a new team. I don’t officially transfer for a few more weeks – however I’ll be hectic completing off my present jobs as well as transitioning my work (and packing up my stuff – I can’t believe exactly how much crap I’ve amassed).  So for the month of August, I’ll be on a reduced blogging routine – I plan to blog about when a week. I have the complying with posts planned:
• June & July trash Stash
• birthday haul as well as presents
• June & July No-Low-Buy Accountability
• Mid-year Favourites

Stay tuned! exactly how was your July? What have you been up to?
